VAT invoicing for garages in the UAE, UK, Saudi Arabia and US
Tax rules for invoices differ from one country to the next, and a garage should not have to redesign its paperwork to follow them. Baktam uses your business country to decide how sales receipts and completed job cards are printed: the document title, which tax numbers appear and how tax is broken down. This page explains what each country gets today and what is not supported yet.
One calculation, country-specific documents
Every sale and job card line carries its own tax rate and discount, and a discount can also be applied to the whole document. The same calculation is used in the web panel, the mobile apps, the API and on printed documents, so totals always match. The invoice layout is chosen from the country in your business settings, where you also enter your own tax registration number.
United Arab Emirates: Tax Invoice with TRN
For UAE businesses, sales receipts and completed or delivered job cards are titled Tax Invoice together with the Arabic title, and the tax number labels are shown in English and Arabic. The document includes your TRN and, when it is recorded on the customer, the customer's TRN, which is checked to be 15 digits. VAT is broken down by rate alongside the total excluding VAT, amounts are shown in AED, and the default rate is 5% with 0% also available.
United Kingdom: VAT invoice
UK garages get documents titled VAT invoice with your VAT registration number and, where recorded, the customer's VAT number in GB format. The standard 20% rate, the reduced 5% rate and 0% are available, and each document shows VAT by rate and the net total. Prices are in GBP and odometer readings are recorded in miles.
United States: invoices with sales tax
US shops get documents titled Invoice with a Sales tax line and no VAT wording. Because rates depend on the state and local area, you enter your own combined rate with up to three decimals, for example 8.875%, and parts and labor can have different rates. The customer's EIN can be printed on the invoice, and amounts are in USD.
Saudi Arabia: ZATCA e-invoicing (Fatoora Phase 2)
Baktam connects to ZATCA's Fatoora platform for Phase 2, the integration phase. You onboard your own e-invoicing unit (EGS) in Settings with an OTP from the Fatoora portal; Baktam obtains the unit's certificate (CSID), runs ZATCA's compliance checks and then signs each invoice as XML. A sale to a customer with a valid VAT number, or to a company customer, becomes a standard tax invoice that ZATCA clears before you share it; other sales become simplified tax invoices that are reported to ZATCA. If ZATCA cannot be reached, the signed invoice is resent automatically. The printed invoice then shows Tax Invoice or Simplified Tax Invoice with ZATCA's QR code; until a sale is reported or cleared, it prints as Invoice with a note that it is not a ZATCA e-invoice. Limits today: each sale is issued with a click rather than automatically, completed job cards print as Invoice, credit notes are not yet created when a reported sale is cancelled, and each business has one e-invoicing unit. ZATCA e-invoicing is part of the Pro and Enterprise plans.
Qatar and UAE e-invoicing: what is not included yet
Qatar currently has no VAT, so documents there are titled Invoice rather than Tax Invoice. The UAE e-invoicing programme based on Peppol is scheduled to become mandatory in phases from 2027; Baktam is not yet connected to it. Apart from ZATCA, the only other built-in e-invoicing integration is for Turkey.

FAQ
Does Baktam support UAE e-invoicing through Peppol?⌄
Not yet. UAE documents are printed Tax Invoices with TRN and a VAT breakdown. They are not sent through the Peppol e-invoicing network.
Does Baktam work with ZATCA e-invoicing in Saudi Arabia?⌄
Yes, for Phase 2. Your business onboards its own e-invoicing unit with an OTP from the Fatoora portal, then each sale you issue is signed, reported to or cleared by ZATCA and printed with its QR code.
Are UAE tax invoices printed in Arabic and English?⌄
The document title and the tax number labels are printed in both English and Arabic. The rest of the document uses your business language, which can be English or Arabic.
Can I use more than one VAT rate on the same invoice?⌄
Yes. Each line has its own rate, and the document shows the tax amount for each rate separately along with the net total.
Can I enter a sales tax rate like 8.875%?⌄
Yes. Tax rates are stored with up to three decimals, so combined state and local rates can be entered exactly.
Does Baktam file my VAT return?⌄
No. Baktam produces your sales and tax documents and reports, but it does not submit VAT or sales tax returns to any tax authority.
